Illinois Youth Day Students Enjoy Day in Springfield

Wayne-White Counties Electric Cooperative took 6 area high school students to Spring-field for Illinois Youth Day, the first-step in the process to learn, and ultimately select 2 students to attend a week-long trip of a lifetime to Washington DC in June. Students attending Youth Day with Wayne-White Elec¬tric were Larson Courson and Joshua Putz from Norris City Omaha Enfield High School, Kobee Ivey and JoAnna Leonardi from Wayne City High School, Chase Cline from Fairfield Community High School and Lexi McKinney from Edwards County High School.

While in Springfield, the students toured the State Capitol building and met with State Senator Terri Bryant and State Senator Dale Fowler, and Representative Patrick Windhorst. Students had many questions for Senator Bryant, who was happy to take the time to answer all of their questions. Students were able to step onto the House Chamber floor for pictures, and view the Chamber from the overhead gallery. The group was also able to tour Lincoln Presidential Museum, as well as Lincoln’s Home.

After the return trip home, students were asked to write an essay to determine the 2 winners to attend the Youth to Washington Tour from June 16 to June 23. The winners were announced the following week, with Chase Cline of FCHS and Lexi McKinney of ECHS being selected. They will attend the Youth to Washington Tour June 16 to June 23 with about 65 other students from across the state.
