Each year, Wayne-White invites interested high school students to express a desire to their Guidance Counselor or Administration about attending our Illinois Youth Day in Springfield. We generally take 10 to 12 students to that one-day event, where they get to participate in State government and learn more about how it functions, while talking to State Senators and Representatives. From that group, we select 2 students to attend the All-Expense paid trip for a week in Washington DC and Gettysburg. While some area high schools organize a trip for their Senior class to the Nation’s Capital, no other trip features the access to the politicians or the venues that the Youth Tour program through the electric cooperatives can provide. It truly is a trip of a lifetime, and students return home with more knowledge about history, politics, economics, the unique cooperative business model, and they make some new lifelong friends.
