Wayne-White Electric attempts to consider many variables including but not limited to line construction and design, members served by the electrical facilities, tree species, tree condition, topography, and other local site-specific conditions to obtain the necessary clearance objectives. In consideration of members and perceived impact from vegetation management specification changes, landscapes have been grouped into two categories outlined below.
Wayne-White Electric has established a ROW width that considers landscape trees that have been planted by members. The wider ROW widths for multi-phase line construction accounts for the crossarm widths of 8′ or 10′. The desired clearance then from the outside conductor in unmaintained landscapes is 20′ and maintained landscapes is 15′. The purpose of the wider ROW width is to further improve reliability and allow the Circuit Pruning Program the ability to extend cycle length.
For trees within Wayne-White Electric’s ROW requiring substantial trimming (more than 30% of the tree’s canopy being removed), it is up to the discretion of the Manage of Right-of-Way if the tree can remain, as long as the following conditions are met:
Conditions
- The tree does not present an outage hazard to the distribution circuit(s).
- The property owner wishes for the tree to remain.
- The remaining tree does not present a falling hazard with the possible liability of damaging homes or privately owned assets.
- The tree will survive until the next established trimming cycle.
