Overhanging branches above the primary distribution system should be removed, especially for weaker wooded tree species such as silver maple and eastern white pine.
Mature trees with large stable limbs overhanging the primary distribution system may remain.
Trees that have been historically top trimmed (Figure 1), V-pruned (Figure 2), or L-pruned (figure 3) should be considered for removal.
Fast growing/weak wooded non-compatible tree species (ex: eastern white pine, silver maple, walnut, mulberry, etc.) that fall within the ROW should be considered for removal and the affected property owners approved.

Immature trees (having less than a 12″ DBH) or brush along the edge may be removed to reduce workload.
Trees or brush that are within the ROW should be targeted for removal.
Rare situations may exist where trees or brush within the ROW may remain that will require top trimming.
Attempts to notify property owners or members of scheduled work should be performed.
DEBRIS CLEAN-UP
- Clearing performed utilizing mechanical equipment (ex: skytrim or mower) should be done in a manner that maintains usability by the property owner.
- If ROW edge is not readily used limbs may be windrowed or left in small piles unless strictly prohibited by property owner.
- Ruts should not be present when work is complete unless weather prohibits effective grading, in which case the property owner should be notified and addressed when feasible.
- When larger trees are felled, logs should be pushed to edge of ROW in a manner that will not interfere with property owner’s use of land.
- Brush and limbs shall be mowed up when deemed necessary or to ensure land use is not restricted, or upon member request.
