We asked the Wayne-White Electric Youth Tour representatives about their trip so you could hear their perspective.
Did you find the application process difficult or was it relatively easy?
Lathan: It was very easy even though there were some difficulties with one of the websites we used to apply.
Sarah: I found the application process really easy; way better than doing an interview.
What was your favorite place to visit and why?
Lathan: Either the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History or the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Both had amazing things on display and inspired me to read into certain things further!
Sarah: The Air & Space Museum! I plan to study astrophysics in college, so it was interesting to me.
What is something you did that got you out of your comfort zone?
Lathan: Volunteering to be on the Nominating Committee for Chip & Pop Co-op! By interviewing various people within our group on the trip, it helped me get to know a lot of people a lot better than if I hadn't.
Sarah: We were roomed with someone from the other bus whom we did not know. It was fun to get to know my roommate!
Would you recommend this trip to other high schoolers?
Lathan: I would recommend this trip wholeheartedly to anyone given the chance! I got to see the benefit of cooperatives in action and experience Washington, D.C. for the first time in my life! I have always been huge into history, so this trip really helped me visualize all the things I had read from books. This was truly a life changing experience to say the least.
Sarah: I would definitely recommend this trip to other high school students. It was fun to ride around DC and see all the different museums and government buildings.
